I want the VPN to be the default gateway all the time, and LAN 1 to be the other gateway. Problem I have is, when the VPN gateway disconnects (it is set to auto reconnect and this happens once or twice a day), LAN 1 goes back to being the default gateway and I have to login to DSM and go and switch them around again. Any changes made in the VPN Interface of the GUI will cause these files to be overwritten. Just re-copy the slick.cfg to the client_oXXXXXX file if this happens. The default configuration file is for Washington, DC (gw1.iad1). Change the gateway address by using the following command, substituting the gateway of your choice.
